It’s Victory in Europe Day in 1945, and while the King and Queen of England (Rupert Everett and Emily Watson) prefer to observe the end of the Second World War as solemnly as possible, Princesses Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) and Margaret (Bel Powley) are quite eager to participate in the revelry in the heart of London. Never before allowed to roam freely about in public, each girl is given a disguise, a chaperone, and a curfew. However, the girls quickly ditch their disapproving mother’s itineraries for an unforgettable night of adventure, drinking, and romance in this engaging film that is humorous, touching, and always very entertaining.

Stefano DiBenedetto & Cass Dillon Present a Benefit Concert and Silent Auction (Jamesport, 12/4)!!

Stepping Stone Support (SSS), an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to helping men and women affected by cancer, recently announced plans for a benefit concert next Friday, December 4th, 7:00PM at Jamesport Meeting House. All proceeds directly benefit local families affected by cancer. Annually, SSS adopts local cancer patients in treatment and their children during the holiday season through its Survivor’s Little Helper Program.

HMTC Book Fair Hosted By Barnes & Noble (Manhasset, 12/6)!

Readings, activities, networking and more! The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center (HMTC) and Barnes & Noble have joined forces to bring us a book fair that has a day packed with events. Starting off with story hour for the young ones and ending with a read from Bernice Sims’ memoir, there’s going to be a lot of activities and information that every family can enjoy. The book fair is on Sunday, December 6th from 9:30am-4pm at Barnes & Noble in Manhasst, and if you plan out your day you can even stop by the Americana to do some holiday shopping for the last day of Champions for Charity.

20th Anniversary of Champions for Charity at Americana Manhasset (12/3-6)!

In less than 2 weeks we can enjoy some guilt-free shopping! Since 1996, Americana Manhasset (and Wheatley Plaza) has been running Champions for Charity, an annual holiday shopping benefit event to raise money for the non-profit community. Basically, you can do your holiday shopping with the comfort of knowing that some of your money is going to benefit various non-profit organizations (over 100) with their missions. Over 70 of its stores participate to support non-profit growth while also making it a memorable experience for the shoppers! This year, they have added an extra day giving us 4 days to enjoy feeling good about our purchases running from Thursday, December 3rd – Sunday, December 6th.

The Winter Furman Film Series Returns to the Gold Coast Intl Film Festival! (Great Neck – 12/2, 12/16, 1/6, 1/20, 2/3)

If you don’t know what the Furman Series is, then I would recommend setting aside some time to attend! It’s a series that preview the best new indie films and typically followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and industry professionals. The series is held at Bow Tie Squire Cinemas in Great Neck every year with movie night discounts for all subscribers. Series dates are Wednesdays, December 2, 16; January 6, 20; February 3.

RECAP: 5th Anniversary Gold Coast International Film Festival!! (11/9-15)

The 2015 Gold Coast International Film Festival took place November 9 – 15, 2015 in venues throughout the north shore, and as always it was an exciting week of films, parties, filmmaker Q&As, and glamour attended in droves by a cross section of communities and cultures. This year, again many award winning actors and directors joined us including multiple Academy Award winners and nominees, Emmy winners, Golden Globe nominees and Sundance and Hamptons Film Festival winners.
